GRENFELL TOWER FIRE: About 200 buildings across UK still UNSAFE after Grenfell Tower fire.

Institutions have failed in their job to ensure building
standards are maintained, the test results also revealed.
The National House Building Council (NHBC), for example, last
September announced it would sign off on what are now
known to be unsafe buildings without commissioning tests.
The NHBC is the longest standing private institution that is
allowed to do building inspection in the UK.
The results come after the Government commissioned six
large-scale tests which sought to establish which types of
insulation could safely be used with certain cladding type
Chris Cook, the Newsnight Policy Editor, said: “We now know
that there are 228 tall buildings across England that have
combinations of insulation and aluminium cladding on the
outside that is not fire safe.
“In principle, under our building regulations you should not be
able to put up this stuff without it going through a rigorous fire
test of the sort the Government has just been doing.
“The problem is that the institutions we rely on to police that
requirement basically let us down.”
Yesterday, a letter was sent to Prime Minister Theresa May,
saying thousands of dangerous household electrical goods
are still being used in homes – with around three UK fires a
day involving tumble dryers.
